The Manila 1st Asian Martial Arts Games was conceived and organized by the Philippine Jendo Association (PJA) headed by its Founder and Chairman Grandmaster Prof. Jonathan Makiling-Abaya.   With a majority decision of PJA board, selected its subsidiary organization, the Philippine Full Contact Self-Defense Federation headed by its appointed President Jose Diaz to run the event in cooperation with the Martial Arts Games Council of Asia. From its original schedule of November 29 to December 4, 2007, it was moved to December 1 to December 4, 2007 due to  some unavoidable circumstances and technical problems.  Grandmaster Abaya and his high-ranking officials in the Philippine Jendo Association with the support of International Martial Arts Games Committee – General Secretary, Grandmaster Dr. Leong Wai Meng from Greenland, Master Norman Law from Hong Kong and Grandmaster Asghar Shokri from Iran took over and successfully concluded games up to its Awarding Ceremony as scheduled.

The opening of the games held at the Rizal Football Oval was highlighted with the parade of participants, colorful traditional Filipino folk-dances and martial arts exhibitions.   The lighting of torch was headed by Grandmaster Abaya and then passed it to the games icon Daniel Razon of UNTelevision to formally light the Manila 1st Asian Martial Arts Games ceremonial basin.  After the ceremony, the competition was conducted at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium with the IMGC General Secretary – Grandmaster Dr. Leong Wai Meng, IMGC Executive Board Member from Hong Kong – Master Norman Law and Madam Vivian Tianero of WOMA as the Special Guests of Honor.

Among the sports played during games are, Jendo, Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Part Fight, Light Fight, Mixed Martial Arts and Kung Fu.   Arnis was also demonstrated shortly before the awarding ceremony by the Jendo Philippines demo-team headed by Grandmaster Abaya himself.   The participants, guests and technical officials who supported the games were from Belarus, China Taipei, Korea, Iran, Thailand, Greenland, Ukraine, Nepal, India, United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Russia, Philippines and Hong Kong.

The Manila 1ST Asian Martial Arts Games owe its success from the support of the Office of the Philippine President – Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Office of the Philippine Vice President Hon. Noli De Castro, the Department of Tourism, the Philippine Tourism Authority, the Philippine Sports Commission, the City Government of Manila, the UNTelevision and other sponsors who supported the project along way.
